PMAWCA WOMEN NETWORK

The Network for Professional Women in the Maritime and Port Sector of West and Central Africa (NPWMP-WCA)

Background and Guidelines

Noting that the subject of woman and child fundamentally remains at the centre of the fight against poverty;

Considering the World-wide Declaration of Human Rights and the Resolution on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women;

Considering the necessity to take into account the participation of women in the conception and accomplishment process of development of objectives;

Considering that in response to this situation, the international community put funding in place for the development of women in the workplace and also for the African women with regards to her cultural identity;

Considering that in these last decade, the response of the civil society and governments to the situation of women in general and African women in particular, is more theory and political than the real willingness to create an equal society with equality of opportunities;

Noting that the maritime and port sector is an example of this environment in which enormous efforts remain to be made for the advancement of the strategy ''Gender and Development';

A group of professional women in the maritime and port sector, representing member countries of the Ports Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA), created Network for Professional Women in the Maritime and Port Sector of West and Central Africa (NPWMP-WCA).
